Denise Gomez Markowski is an artist based in San Antonio, Texas, whose practice centers on photography. Combining alternative photographic processes, mixed media, sculptural elements, and digital experimentation, she explores memory, transience, and the relationship between nature and human experience. Her work has been exhibited in museums, public libraries, and galleries locally and internationally.
Artist Statement
My work emerges from the relationship between my personal vision and the landscape. I explore the connections between nature, time, and identity, creating photographic narratives informed by dreams, memories, anxieties, and lived experience.Rooted in photography, my practice incorporates alternative processes, mixed media, and sculptural elements. I work intuitively with light, texture, and organic materials to give familiar subjects a sense of mystery and emotional depth. Botanical fragments, weathered surfaces, and traces of human presence become ways of exploring the tension between what endures and what fades.Through my artwork, I invite the viewer into the space between reality and imagination, leaving room for personal interpretation and reflection on how we experience memory and change.
